Ray populations are prone to depletion. Although there are a few species of Rays which are on the conservation list, over-fishing of other species is cause for concern. There are few controls in place and the market for rays is huge (even stingray leather). The slow rate of reproduction, combined with pollution and over-fishing, could easily lead to depleted ray communities.
