Millions of years ago there were no oceans or seas on the planet. The surface of the Earth was so hot that the water boiled away. Then, volcanoes poured a lot of steam into the atmosphere and the Earth slowly cooled down. The steam turned to water vapor that then condensed and began to fall as rain. The rain filled hollows in the land and formed the world’s first seas.
